Sewing with Style


‘sewing with style’ will provide learner sewer’s with an introduction to the application and modification of commercial patterns together with techniques to embellish and construct a complete garment.

This program will cover:

  • How to interpret, apply and modify a commercial pattern
  • Techniques for embellishing garments including freehand embroidery, dissolving appliqué and others
  • An introduction to fabric composition and the identification of the functional and aesthetic qualities of a variety of textiles
  • Instruction and practice of garment closures including seams, hem finishes, zip application and button & button holes
  • Forecasting of domestic and international fashion trends

At the conclusion of this program, participants will have constructed a complete garment.

The minimum requirement for this workshop is the ability to thread and use a sewing machine. The workshop is aimed at those wishing to improve their sewing skills or those with an interest in fashion. This program will also assist students with their textiles and design projects, and those wishing to successfully continue studies in fashion design and construction.

This program will be delivered on-campus in two modes: Summer/Winter Holiday block from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday with a 1-hour lunchbreak

or over a series of 8 Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm.

Price: $610 including sewing kit and commercial pattern
